Everybody needs a word processor. And there are some nice ones out there. Microsoft, in particular, is quite proud of Word, as can be evidenced by its price.
And there are free alternatives. I am a firm backer and happy user of OpenOffice.
But how would you like a free word processor that runs on Windows, Linux, or Mac O/S’s? Oh, and you access it by browsing to a website? Sound pretty cool?
Well, just check out today’s FamilyFirst site: ajaxWrite! Here’s what they have to say about themselves:
ajaxWrite has been designed to look like Microsoft Word, making it easy for anyone to start using it without needing to learn a new program. ajaxWrite also handles all the popular document formats so it’s easy to share your files and collaborate with your co-workers and friends. Once finished with your document, you can easily save your work right to your hard drive. This keeps you organized and works in the same way that you’re already accustomed to.
Of course, it DOES require Firefox. Surely you’re not still running IE, are you? If so, download a free copy of Firefox first from mozilla.com.
I have to tell you, this thing is impressive! It takes about six seconds to load up on my DSL connection. It’s fully featured, though not as busy as Word’s interface. You can easily insert tables, bulleted or numbered lists, colored fonts, and nearly all of the word processing features you’re used to.
It’s updated automatically, too. You always have the latest version for free! Bookmark the site, and always have a free word processor you can access anywhere in the world.
